While brushing and flossing at home is crucial, professional dental cleanings and exams are essential to your long-term oral health. At Harte Dental, we recommend two dental cleanings per year, although your dentist or hygienist may recommend a different schedule for your individual needs. Our dental cleanings include:

Plaque Removal

Plaque, a sticky substance that clings to the teeth, is made of bacteria and food debris. The bacteria in the plaque produces dangerous toxins, capable of causing gum disease and periodontal disease.

Calculus Removal

Calculus, also known as tartar, occurs when plaque hardens onto the tooth surface. Using special equipment, we can remove calculus both above and below the gum line that brushing can’t get rid of.

Tooth Polishing

Using our state of the art equipment, we can remove plaque and stains, bringing a beautiful shine back to your smile!
On top of your cleaning, our dentists will also perform a dental exam, which includes:

Tooth Examination

We will examine your teeth for signs of surface decay and/or cavities.

X-Rays

Using the latest in X-Ray diagnostics, we can assess whether your teeth and roots are correctly positioned, and look for evidence of tooth decay, tumours, bone loss or cysts.

Gum Disease Check

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, can lead to disease of the oral bones. We’ll check for the three stages of gum disease: gingivitis, periodontitis and advanced periodontitis.

Oral Cancer Screening

We examine the tongue, gums, neck, lips, throat, tissues and face for signs of oral cancer.

Restoration Evaluation

We will examine all current restorations for signs of wear and tear. This includes all fillings, crowns and other dental restorations.
